About Szent István University
Szent István University (SZIU), one of Hungary’s most prominent institutions of higher education, consists of eight different faculties for study and research hosting approximately 15,000 students. The university campuses, located throughout the country, are home to some beautiful buildings in Hungary, offering students and staff a comfortable, relaxing environment for the attainment of knowledge. With parts of its history dating back well over two centuries, SZIU blends Hungary’s rich traditions with cutting-edge technology to meet the needs of its students in today’s competitive labour markets.
Within the eight faculties degree programs are offered in a wide variety of subjects ranging from natural and environmental sciences, food engineering, horticulture, landscape architecture, mechanical engineering to business economics, social sciences, architecture and health sciences. Programmes are available at every level from vocational training to PhD and beyond.
SZIU understands the importance of internationalization and promotes a variety of international activities. With partners on almost every continent, SZIU students and staff can operate on a global scale to gain and share the essential knowledge for success in the globalized world. Our mission, in close cooperation with our partners, is to serve Hungary’s economic and social progress, as well as contribute to the renewal and development of the countryside and the field of agriculture with outstanding education, research and development, counselling, and innovation activities.
We participate in activities in all areas of agricultural sciences and in disciplines of natural, mechanical and social sciences necessary for the development of agriculture, food, and rural economics.
To achieve these goals, the following programmes are specifically featured in the training and research portfolio: rural development, agricultural science, horticulture, viticulture, oenology, food science, food safety, agricultural economics, water management, agri-food mechanical engineering, renewable energy management, environment and landscape management, landscape architecture, management of agricultural and manmade rural environment, architecture, and civil engineering.
Our graduates’ extensive and competitive professional knowledge, the recognition and acknowledgement of our scientific findings on both the national and international level, and the implementation of our research and development practices in the everyday operation of enterprises all indicate our future success.

The primary task of the University is to provide multilevel, multilingual, student-centred education that is in harmony with scientific progress and prevailing societal requirements.
