About Istanbul Altınbaş University
Founded under the name “Istanbul Kemerburgaz University” by Mehmet Altınbaş Education and Culture Foundation in 2008, the university proceeds on its way towards the future after its name was changed to “Altınbaş University” in 2017.
Established at the bequest of the late businessman, Mehmet Altınbaş, who had always emphasized the importance of “investing in education”; Altınbaş University has been the most precious legacy to Altınbaş family. With its brand new name driven by the power of Altınbaş Holding, the University is now taking firmer and stronger steps towards its new goals.
Having welcomed its first students in the academic year 2011/12, Altınbaş University grew into an international research university showing its breakthrough progress within a very short period of time. Today, it continues to provide value-added contributions to the scientific community with its high number of granted patents, TUBITAK projects and high rate of faculty publications and participation to international conferences. Home to 9 undergraduate schools, 3 graduate schools, 2 vocational schools as of the academic year 2017-2018, Altınbaş University is currently offering 30 bachelor’s degree programmes, 34 associate’s degree programmes, 28 master’s degree programmes and 6 PhD programmes. As part of its goal to become a hub of international scientific research and activities, more than 3 thousand out of ten thousand students admitted to Altınbaş University are from 88 different countries of the world.

1. Freedom of Research
Teachers are entitled to full freedom in research and in the publication of the results, subject to the adequate performance of their other academic duties; but research for pecuniary return should be based upon an understanding with the authorities of the institution.
2. Freedom of Education
Teachers are entitled to freedom in the classroom in discussing their subject, but they should be careful not to introduce into their teaching controversial matter which has no relation to their subject.
3. Freedom of Thought
University teachers are citizens, members of a learned profession, and officers of an educational institution. When they speak or write as citizens, they should be free from institutional censorship or discipline, but their special position in the community imposes special obligations. As scholars and educational officers, they should remember that the public may judge their profession and their institution by their utterances. Hence they should at all times be accurate, should exercise appropriate restraint, should show respect for the opinions of others, and should make every effort to indicate that they are not speaking for the institution.
4. Financial Support for Students
The University makes every effort to prevent the deprivation of its students of educational opportunities due to financial difficulties.
The University adopts a knowledge-based, democratic, participative, dynamic and flexible management philosophy where duties and responsibilities are delegated to academic and administrative units. The University adopts the principles of transparency and accountability in all activities.
6. Contribution to Society
The University aims to contribute to the various levels of society and to form close relations with its community. The university is closely concerned with the problems of our country, our region of the world, and the international community. The University strives to create solutions and deploy them within the society. The University plays a leading role in stimulating scientific, cultural, and social interactions.
7. Relations with the Constituents
The University considers the contribution and the impact of its activities and its development on its constituents. The University understands that its proper functioning depends on the satisfaction of all of its constituents.
